Doug’s attention to detail is of extremely high quality and his responsiveness was great. The building process was very easy. Luckily for us, or perhaps unlucky for Doug, we were on-site during the build. He kept us up-to-date, asked questions when needed, and was very practical. I would definitely use Doug again. He’s been fantastic. Doug would probably say himself that he’s not going to be the cheapest, but quality counts. I certainly think that the few extra dollars for the meticulous finishes he insists upon are well worth a quality job.

Doug was interested in my ideas and adding to them, rather than telling me what I should want.  Any building process is painful – there’s lots of stress and anything can go wrong. Our architect gave us a short list of three builders. Doug wasn’t the cheapest, but he impressed us because of the time and effort he put in before submitting his price. He came out to the site, evaluated what needed to be done, talked to the neighbors, and planned how to manage what was going to be a challenging renovation project. We have a three level house on a steep lot with difficult access from the street. The management of the job was very professional and Doug was very, very particular about the quality. Generally there were no surprises, and I feel that’s an indication of a high level of management. The employees were always pleasant to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble. Good News Lutheran Church Middle Park engaged Bretherton Builders to carry out extensive renovations to the manse. This older house, used by the pastor, required a totally new roof and other major improvements. We found Doug Bretherton to be fair in tendering prices and obligingly open in keeping us informed about prices and timing. He performed well to contract requirements and provided good and supervised work performance. We were very happy with the renovations.

Doug and I work well together. I buy a building and tell him to go and fix it. Doug’s innovative and flexible. He doesn’t just sit back and follow a set of plans. He finds out what you want to achieve and designs what you need. Our staff love what he’s done with the old Newstead building.

Doug carried out a total renovation of an old 1970s rental house I bought, and I was ecstatic with the end result, which was virtually a whole new home. When any problems arose, Doug always had a solution. I was also impressed by the professionalism, quality workmanship and overall attitude of Doug and his apprentice. I couldn’t have been happier.
